Real Evidence Humans Are Very Addicted to Smartphones

Many people experience dependence on smartphones. In a recent study conducted by the application monitoring company, App Annie, the average person spends 4.8 hours per day accessing their cellphone. Users in Indonesia are even higher.

Mainly what they do on their smartphone is access their favorite applications. In 2021, App Annie noted that there had been 230 billion application downloads and users spent a total of USD 170 billion for various services.

The most downloaded application is TikTok. Another finding is that large screen devices are decreasing in popularity compared to mobile phones.

"Big screens are slowly dying out as mobile devices continue to break records in every category, both time, downloads and revenue," said App Annie Chief Executive Theodore Krantz.

The average time spent using the app is 4 hours 48 minutes, which is a 30% increase over the data from 2019.

This study targets smartphone users in various countries including India, Turkey, United States, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and Canada.

There is even a special note for users in Brazil, South Korea, and also Indonesia. Here, users spend more than 5 hours of app accessing a day which is more than the average.

What were you doing on your smartphone during that time? 7 minutes out of 10 are apparently spent on social media, photo and video apps. Mainly it's done on TikTok.

On the other hand, the mobile ecosystem on smartphones is currently in a very healthy condition, with 2 million new applications and games launched in 2021. Meanwhile, the number of applications that generate more than USD 100 million rose to 20%.
