TikTok Tests Features So Creators Can Earn Money from Followers

TikTok has confirmed Thursday (21/1/2022), that they are testing support for the paid subscription feature. With this feature, it can pave the way for creators to earn additional income from their followers.

Unfortunately TikTok does not provide detailed information such as when this support will be rolled out to creators, how many creators are already involved in testing or what the payment method will be.

"We're always thinking of new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience," said a TikTok spokesperson as quoted by The Verge.

If this feature is properly adopted, it will be TikTok's latest move to help creators monetize their content.

Earlier in December, TikTok launched a tip for creators feature that allows viewers to send tips directly through the profiles of creators enrolled in the Creator Next program. Not only that, users can also buy and send virtual gifts to the creator.

Given that other monetization options have been widely implemented on other social media platforms, it's no wonder TikTok is following this path.

Like Instagram, which recently announced that it has tested a similar feature where influencers and creators on Instagram can earn additional income from subscription fees.

The trial is still in its early stages and limited to the United States. Instagram is inviting 10 creators to participate in the trial, including basketball athlete Sedona Prince, Olympic athlete Jordan Chiles and astrologer Aliza Kelly.

"I'm excited to continue building tools for creators to make a living doing creative work and share these tools with more creators in the near future," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.
