Earth Day, Gojek Invites Users to Plant Trees Through GoGreener Innovation

On Earth Day which falls on April 22, 2022, Gojek reaffirms its commitment to Three Zeros (Zero Emissions, Zero Waste, and Zero Barriers) through a series of #GoGreener initiatives and innovations. In addition to providing a positive impact and long-term value for the environment, this initiative also facilitates various needs, lifestyles and business practices with the principle of sustainability.

Throughout 2020-2021, the GoGreener Tree Planting and Adoption program has planted as many as 5,000 trees in 13 different locations throughout Indonesia. More than 100,000 Gojek consumers have also activated the #GoGreener Collective Tree feature.

"We are proud that Gojek's technology can move many people to contribute to the environment in an easy way. To date, more than 100,000 consumers have activated the #GoGreener Collective Tree feature. This enthusiasm encourages us to continue to innovate and invite more people to join in this movement. On Earth Day, Gojek is committed to adding the number of trees that consumers have collected in the period from April 22 to May 21, 2022," said Head of Sustainability GoTo Tanah Sullivan in a written statement, Saturday (23/4/2022).

On Earth Day this time, Gojek invites GoRide and GoCar consumers to plant trees as a form of individual contribution in reducing carbon emissions with the #BeBetterBeik campaign. Through the #GoGreener Collective Tree feature, consumers who travel by GoRide or GoCar can contribute to tree planting initiatives by only adding a fee of IDR 1,000 for GoRide, and IDR 2,000 for GoCar.

The #GoGreener Collective Tree is the result of Gojek's collaboration with Jejak.in, a homeland startup in the environmental field that provides Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT)-based solutions to monitor and manage trees or plants. Through this technology, the process of planting trees to absorb carbon footprints can be carried out easily, transparently and sustainably.

Deputy for Environmental and Forestry Management Coordination, Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenkomarves) Nani Hendiarti explained that the GoGreener initiative was in line with the government's target to rehabilitate 600,000 hectares of critical mangrove areas in Indonesia.

"The Indonesian government is targeting to rehabilitate 600,000 hectares of critical mangrove areas in Indonesia. This is in line with Gojek's initiative which also invites users of its ecosystem to plant trees, one of which is Mangrove. On the other hand, regarding waste management, Indonesia has succeeded in reducing waste leakage from land to land. "This achievement is very encouraging because it has exceeded the value of 2.6% of the previously set target. We hope that this figure will get better with Gojek participating in socializing and providing assistance to its ecosystem in managing waste," he explained. .

"The issue of climate change must be socialized in a way that is easy to understand. Gojek's invitation, 'while walking, you can plant trees' illustrates that environmentally friendly steps can be carried out together with us carrying out daily activities," he concluded.

Not only consumers, business actors also received workshops from Small Actions by Gojek and GTF to start environmentally friendly business practices. For example, using alternative packaging and recycling business production waste oil into more useful goods.
