iPhone is eating away at Android Market

Android's market share for the past five years, since 2018 until now, has continued to decline. From 77.32% in 2018 to 69.74% in January 2022, which is data from Statista.

Although its market share is still far ahead of iOS, the Android market continues to be undermined by the iPhone operating system, which during the same period increased from 19.4% to 25.49%, as quoted by Phone Arena.

Android and iOS practically dominate 100% of the mobile market. Although there are also a number of other operating systems at the bottom. Like KaiOS, a Linux-based feature phone platform, Windows Phone, Nokia Series 40, Tizen, and others.

Keep in mind, this is global data, because country-by-country data can be inversely related. For example, the United States market is controlled by iOS, and the developing country market is controlled by Android.

For example, the Android market share reaches 81% and in South America it is even higher, at 90%. One of the increasing share of the iOS market is that Apple is starting to be able to make guerrillas to emerging markets through the iPhone SE.

But so far sales of the iPhone SE, at least according to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, are still disappointing. Whereas the previous two iPhone SEs were quite successful.

Of course there is also an aspect of economic capacity, specifically purchasing power in certain regions has an impact on the Android vs iOS market share. In Africa for example, Android's market share is 84% while iOS is only 14%. Meanwhile in Europe, the Android market - although still superior - began to decline, namely 69.32% compared to iOS which reached 30%.

Meanwhile in their home country, iOS is dominant, although not too dominant. In the United States the market share of iOS is 54% against Android whose market share is 45%.

Unless Apple suddenly drops the price of iPhones drastically or per capita income in developing countries increases drastically, iOS's position probably won't change much. The odds were only increasing little by little as it was now.
