Elon Musk Wants To Count The Number Of Fake Accounts On Twitter

Tesla CEO Elon Musk delays buying Twitter due to fake account issues. He wanted to count the numbers himself.

This was revealed in a series of recent tweets to the public, as seen by us, Monday (16/5/2022). Continuing to tweet about delaying purchases, Elon revealed plans against fake accounts on Twitter.

"To find out, my team will do a random sample of 100 Twitter followers. I invite others to do the same process and see what they find," says Elon.

Not long after, Elon tweeted again. "The bots are angry because they're being counted," Elon said with a laughing emoji.

Previously in its first quarter 2022 report, Twitter claimed that the number of fake accounts was only 5% of the total Twitter users. But this figure is doubtful because there is no independent verification.

It is suspected that the number of fake accounts is more than recognized. Elon Musk also doubts it.

That's what underlies the announcement on Twitter, he said he was delaying the purchase of Twitter until it was clear about this fake account. However, Elon Musk insists that he remains committed to buying Twitter worth Rp. 638 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 14,500).

But no doubt it caused a stir in the world. Even Twitter shares were down until he made. Twitter shares slumped 17% to $37.1.

Twitter has had a spam problem for years. Twitter has also previously acknowledged that reducing fake and malicious accounts is important for Twitter to continue to grow.

Elon Musk also seems uneasy about this fake account issue. It's no secret that Twitter has become a place for various anonymous accounts to tweet, especially regarding politics such as the Indonesian presidential election and the US presidential election.

But on the other hand, many parties also see Elon Musk will make Twitter more political with the discourse of returning Donald Trump's account which was closed by Twitter due to political provocations in the US Capitol Building riots. Moreover, Elon Musk admits that his political position tends to be pro-Republican.
