Kevin Aluwi's Action to Build Gojek to Become a World Technology Company

Gojek Co-founder and CEO and Director of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GOTO), Kevin Aluwi will enter the transition from an executive position. He will strengthen GoTo's board of commissioners.

As is known, GoTo is the largest digital ecosystem in Indonesia that integrates Gojek's on-demand services, Tokopedia e-commerce, and GoTo Financial fintech. This includes the GoPay digital wallet.

Kevin's move is in line with Tokopedia founder William Tanuwijaya, who previously served as GoTo's Commissioner since 2021.

The plan for Kevin's transition from the GoTo directors to join the GoTo commissioners will be part of the GoTo General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) agenda. It is planned that this meeting will be held on June 28, 2022 in accordance with the invitation to the AGMS which has been announced on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) website.

After obtaining shareholder approval to assume the position of GoTo commissioner, Kevin's responsibility as CEO of Gojek will be taken over by Andre Soelistyo who is CEO of GoTo Group.

It is known, Kevin has succeeded in building a solid management team at Gojek. So that going forward, Andre will work closely with the management team at Gojek who will carry out the strategic plan of GoTo's on-demand business.

As GoTo's commissioner later, Kevin admitted that he would continue to represent Gojek for the initiative to develop electric vehicles. This is in line with GoTo's commitment to achieve zero carbon by 2030 to support the government's 'Green Indonesia' program.

"After almost a decade of leading Gojek, I feel this is the right time to take on a more strategic role that does not directly intersect with daily operations," Kevin said in a written statement, Monday (6/6/2022).

"In my capacity as a commissioner later, I will be involved at a strategic level together with GoTo management to ensure the achievement of the company's vision and mission. At the same time, I will also have more time to develop my personal interest in technology," he said.

Kevin added that he really wants to build technology that is useful and can make the world a better place. There are several areas of interest and he wants to explore more deeply, including the fields of web3, gaming, and climate tech.

Kevin is one of the founders of Gojek who has succeeded in bringing Gojek through various phases of growth. Until now, Gojek has become a world-class technology company operating in Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam and is supported by global talent. Gojek is now included in one of the three main services of the GoTo Group as the most complete digital ecosystem with the support of 2.5 million drivers.

Based on the data, Kevin has broad responsibilities as the Co-Founder of Gojek. At the beginning of Gojek's establishment, Kevin built a finance and accounting team as well as a data science and business intelligence team to build Gojek's technology infrastructure.

Kevin also led Gojek to invest heavily in technology. Both in Indonesia and abroad. This makes Gojek one of the most advanced companies in Indonesia in technology and data.

One of the biggest achievements is building an allocation and matchmaking system for driver partners together with the data and engineering teams. This system was then quickly developed in Gojek services outside of other transportation, such as GoSend and GoFood. This also created the world's first on-demand multi-service dispatch system in 2015, which is the foundation of the Gojek platform to date.

Kevin also introduced the GoCar four-wheel vehicle service innovation in April 2016. At that time, the four-wheel ride-hailing service market was very competitive and Gojek was only known for its two-wheeled service.

To date, GoCar is the market leader in Indonesia with an increasing presence and business growth in Singapore and Vietnam. GoCar is also one of the most profitable businesses in the GoTo ecosystem.

Kevin was also awarded the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia award for the Consumer Technology category in 2016 and Fortune 40 Under 40 in 2022 by Fortune Indonesia.

Prior to joining Gojek, Kevin had worked at Zalora Indonesia as Head of Business Intelligence and as Business Development Manager at Merah Putih Inc. An alumnus of the University of Southern California-Marshall School of Business, USA, he started his career as an Investment Banking Analyst at Salem Partners LLC.

By becoming a commissioner at GoTo, Kevin said he would continue to realize his passion and produce various innovations in technology to contribute to advancing the technology industry in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, GoTo Group CEO Andre Soelistyo revealed that his party is very grateful to Kevin for his leadership as CEO of Gojek and his contribution to GoTo's success. In the near future, Andre continued, Kevin will also strengthen GoTo's board of commissioners.

"I am sure that in his new role as commissioner, Kevin's experience and expertise in producing technological solutions that are beneficial to the wider community will continue to provide added value for GoTo's future growth," said Andre.

"I'm also really looking forward to Kevin's next steps, which I believe will have a lot of positive impacts, just like Gojek," he concluded.
