Thanks to Apple Silicon, Mac and iPad will be able to play AAA games

Apple announced the macOS Ventura and the Apple Silicon M2 chip at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2022 yesterday. As part of the macOS Ventura announcement, Apple also unveiled the latest update for gaming on the Mac and iPad.

Thanks to the Apple Silicon chip, Mac devices can now play AAA games such as Resident Evil Village, No Man's Sky, and GRID Legends. Usually AAA games like this can only be played on a gaming console or PC.

Because Apple Silicon is also available on the iPad, game developers can also bring AAA games to the iPad and Mac. This is certainly good news for Mac and iPad users because they do not have to worry about missing their favorite games because they do not have gaming -oriented devices.

According to Capcom's Advanced Technical Research Division Manager Masaru Ijuin, the MacBook Air with Apple Silicon can play Resident Evil Village in 1080p resolution, and Mac Studio can play it in 4K quality, as quoted from Cnet, Tuesday (7/6/2022).

In addition, Apple also brings buddy controller support. So two players can use the wireless controller together when playing games on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Apple also introduced a series of special gaming features for Mac and iPad. One of them is Apple bringing Metal 3, the latest version of software that supports the gaming experience across Apple platforms.

Metal 3 will support MetalFX Upscaling, which means game developers can create richer and more realistic graphics faster. MetalFX can render smaller frames and is not wasteful of computing power.

In addition, Metal 3 is also equipped with a Fast Resource Loading API that can reduce game loading time by providing a fast path from storage to the GPU.

Finally, Apple's update to gaming includes the option to use Game Center to share games with friends with SharePlay. This update will come for macOS Ventura, iPadOS 16, and iOS 16 in the near future.
