The previous government had finalized the implementation of using a single wholesale network model for 5G in Malaysia. At the beginning of the planning partnership, many disagreed, and postponed participation under the DNB.
Following on from this, the government has set a date of June 30, 2022 for all to participate under DNB, in addition to giving DNB an equity stake of 70% to telecommunication companies in the success of this program.
In early July, it was shared all telcos have joined DNB, and are expected to introduce their respective 5G services in the next two months.
Touching on it, the Axiata chairman said now all telcos support the government’s aspiration in having a Single Wholesale Network for 5G implementation nationwide.
A total of six telcos have signed agreements with DNB, and are now expected in discussions for a stake in DNB. Not to mention the merger of Digi and Celcom which may lead to DNB’s holdings exceeding other telcos.
