Although the use of eSIM seems attractive, it is actually a waste if the user frequently changes to a new device. This is because the use of eSIM requires the user to deactivate from the old device and re-register on the new device. Most telcos do not allow using the same code and need to apply for a new eSIM code.
On iOS 16 on iPhone, finally the use of eSIM is easier because it supports transfer from iPhone to iPhone. Now, Google reportedly also wants to include more or less the same feature on Android.
What is interesting about this Android offering later is, the use of eSIM gives the user complete control and most likely no longer depends on the telecommunications company. According to Mishaal Rahman, users can not only transfer eSIM from device to device – but can also change physical SIM card directly to eSIM from device.
This feature is said to be built-in to Android devices that support GMS. For now, only the code is found in Android 13 QPR Beta 2 and has not been activated yet. This feature may be offered in Android 14 later.
