Sony Files Television Patent With Anti-Piracy System

There are still many who try their best to gain access to movies or TV series illegally, ie by streaming or downloading through pirated websites or apps. Usually these pirated streaming services use the Torrent system and users are encouraged to use a VPN.

Recently, Sony has filed a patent for a smart television, where there is a built-in anti-piracy system. This feature will likely be built into Android TV or Google TV, since most Sony smart televisions run these operating systems. This system is said to be a type of application that will be installed on their television.

This application will monitor the application that the user installs by sideloading that is with the APK file. If it is detected that this application is trying to access a server, website or IP address that Sony has confirmed has pirated content, the application's Internet access will be slowed down and/or the content will be automatically paused – preventing users from viewing this illegal content.

This is a good move, forcing Sony television users to appreciate the creators of the movie by buying/renting the movie/TV series or continuing to legally subscribe to the video streaming service.
