Schools in China to Introduce Artificial Intelligence Subjects This Year

Will artificial intelligence (AI) have a major impact in the near future? The answer is yes, with KESUMA itself publishing a report on several careers threatened by the use of AI. In China, to ensure that future generations can ensure that the country becomes a leader in this technology, the AI subject will be introduced this year.

The Beijing Municipal Education Commission has instructed all schools in the Chinese capital to teach AI subjects to primary and secondary school students starting next September. Schools are only required to teach 8 hours of AI subjects throughout the academic year with it integrated into existing subjects.

China is ahead of Malaysia, which will only introduce the same subject starting in the 2027 school session. This initial step by China is actually not surprising because the plan to make their country an AI superpower was started more than a decade ago. According to a report published in 2024, 47% of the best researchers in the field of AI are from China. The United States is in second place with 18% followed by Europe (12%), India (5%), Canada (2%), UK (2%), Korea (2%) and Russia (2%).
