Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has begun testing a new system known as the Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) since September 1. The main purpose is to smooth the flow of traffic in the front area of the terminal and improve user safety.
Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad (MAHB) announced that the system test at Terminal 1 is being conducted from September 1 to November 31, 2025. This test involves two main locations, namely level 5 (departure hall) and level 3 (arrival hall). For Terminal 2, the test will begin on September 15 and end on November 30, 2025.
This new system uses automatic barriers to control the entry and exit of vehicles according to the set time limit. When vehicles enter the terminal area, the system will record the time of arrival and exit automatically using cameras and sensors.
During the trial period, users are given 10 minutes free of charge to drop off or pick up passengers. If the period is exceeded, the vehicle movement will be monitored but no charges are imposed for the time being.
Users do not need to register as the system works automatically and requires no interaction. Importantly, users are encouraged to plan their movements carefully so as not to spend too much time in the area.
While there is no charge for now, all data recorded will be used to analyse traffic patterns and understand driver behaviour. The aim is to assess the effectiveness of the system before it is fully implemented.
