Last week, Amazon Web Services' cloud computing service went down, causing a large number of global internet services to be disrupted for days. The issue is still being felt today, but now it seems that it's Microsoft Azure's turn to experience the same problem.
In a notification shown by Microsoft Azure, they said that the issue occurred due to an unexpected internal configuration change, as well as an issue with the Domain Name Service (DNS) service.
The issue is seen to have plagued a number of Microsoft services such as Microsoft 365, Xbox Service and Minecraft. The largest customers affected by this issue also include the bank Capital One, the coffee company Starbucks and the airline Alaska Air.
However, Microsoft has also said that they have fixed the issue, and most of their internal and customer services have been fixed. For now, it is reported that only Microsoft 365 is seen to have problems accessing it at the moment, and a large number of Microsoft Azure services have also started operating in stages.
Microsoft will continue to review Azure services to ensure that this issue does not occur again.
