Did you know that in 2024, a total of one million tourists from India visited Malaysia, spending an average of RM6.11 billion in the country, an increase of 71.7 percent compared to the previous year?
In light of this, digital payment gateway Razerpay Curlec recently announced that it has signed an agreement with NPCI International Payments Limited at the Global Fintech Fest 2025 in India to bring support for the country’s United Payments Interface (UPI) digital payment platform here to facilitate seamless payments by those from the country.
Through this collaboration, visitors or tourists from India can pay for any purchase using UPI-enabled apps to Malaysian merchants. Payments will be authenticated via the Razorpay Curlec platform and payments will be made in Malaysian Ringgit currency without the need for international cards or additional integrations.
In a nutshell, UPI is a digital payment platform in India that is similar to the DuitNow payment platform used in Malaysia. With this agreement, it will be easier for Indian tourists to make payments at various holiday destinations in Malaysia.
With this, it also showcases Malaysia as a destination that supports a wide range of global digital payment services, in line with the ASEAN 2025 summit plan for increased support for digital payments regionally and globally.
