Instagram Now Allows Users to Control Content Display Based on Preferences



Instagram is introducing a new feature that allows users to control their experience more systematically through the Reels tab.


With this feature, users can not only see the algorithm organized by interests but also customize it so that the suggestions displayed are truly relevant to their current needs. Therefore, Reels become more personal because users have full control over the topics displayed.


Users simply need to press the two-line icon located in the upper right to start controlling the Reels algorithm. After that, they can identify their main interests through a brief display of the topics that are considered most relevant, making it easier to customize the content to be more in line with their current needs and interests.


Next, users can customize the options by typing the topics they want to see more or less, and the algorithm will change according to the instructions. In addition, there is an option to share interests through Stories so that contacts know what they like, thus making the experience of using Reels more personal and relevant.


Interestingly, this feature was previously tested on Threads, but the approach is different because it emphasizes more conversational interaction than visual content customization like on Instagram.


For now, the feature is only rolling out in the United States and will gradually expand globally. Instagram also plans to introduce this functionality to the Explore tab and other parts of the app in the future.
