Sleeping Dogs Live-Action Film Receives Indonesian Director's Touch

The Sleeping Dogs live-action film adaptation project was announced a few years ago with Donnie Yen reportedly interested in playing a real character. This project has been on hold for a long time after Yen left the project.

Yesterday Simu Liu, who is famous for playing the main character in the film Shang Hi, announced that the production of the Sleeping Dogs film would continue with Indonesian director Timo Tjahjanto directing this film.

Timo Tjahjanto previously directed the films The Night Comes For Us, The Shadow Strays and Before the Devil Calls. For this new project, Simu Liu will also serve as the film's producer.

The Sleeping Dogs game was launched in 2008 by Square Enix and was developed by United Front Games. It was offered for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. At launch, Sleeping Dogs was seen as GTA but a Hong Kong version. It involves the character Wei Shen, a police officer who goes undercover to infiltrate the Sun On Yee secret society organization.
