PSSR (PlayStation Super Resolution) game resolution upscaling technology is how the PlayStation 5 Pro console can play video games at higher resolutions and settings.
Recently, it was reported that Sony is developing PSSR 2.0 (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) technology for the console, and it will be ready for download by the end of the first quarter of 2026. The introduction of PSSR 2.0 technology is also not new.
Mark Cerny, the chief designer for several Sony PlayStation consoles, including the Sony PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, has already said that PSSR 2.0 will come with technology similar to what was shown through AMD FSR 4.0 on the AMD Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards that were just launched last year.
This includes the use of Super Resolution technology and higher graphics settings processing using the AI processing capabilities demonstrated in the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro console chip. This also includes frame rate upgrades for games that were previously tied to a refresh rate of 70-80FPS.
