AMD Ryzen Z1 Series Chips Reportedly Haven't Received New Updates Since Mid-Last Year

Lenovo Korea has recently announced that the company will no longer be introducing driver updates for its Lenovo Legion Go gaming device powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, as AMD has apparently stopped releasing new driver software for the processor since August 2025.

With this, devices like the Lenovo Legion Go, ASUS ROG Ally and Ally X, along with many other gaming devices using the processor, seem to have not received new updates from AMD for months.

This affects these devices, because usually when there is a new computer game launch, companies like AMD, Intel and NVIDIA will offer updates to these processing components to ensure that the performance of the console or gaming device is as good as possible.

AMD has yet to release an official statement on the status of the AMD Ryzen Z1 series of chips, which includes the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, but a look at AMD's website shows that the AMD Ryzen Z1 has not received any updates since last August, although the AMD Ryzen Z2 chips based on the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip (which powers the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and Lenovo Legion GO S) are still receiving regular updates.

Because of this, until AMD releases a new update for the AMD Ryzen Z1 series of chips, they will not be releasing any performance updates for the original Lenovo Legion Go console. The software update for the AMD Ryzen Z2 is also not applicable, because although the basics are the same, the update is specific to the APU and not the older model.

For now, all that can be done is to wait and see if AMD will release any new statements or updates for the processor.
