Age-appropriate content controls are set to be the biggest trend of 2026 after Australia became the first country to block social media from users under 16. Today Apple announced that it will block apps with an 18+ rating from being downloaded from the App Store in Australia, Singapore and Brazil without first verifying their age.
This is done through an updated Declared Age Range API that developers can integrate into their apps. Among the apps with an 18+ rating are gambling and those that offer punch boxes, which fall into the gambling category in countries like Brazil.
Age checks will be done automatically by Apple, but developers will also have to verify that their users are adults,
