The audit report found that the MyDigital ID Project spent RM28.13 million without approval without the approval of the committee set by MIMOS Berhad. The Auditor General's (LKAN) report tabled in the Dewan Rakyat today revealed that overall there were several weaknesses in the aspects of expenditure and internal control during the initial implementation of the project.
The RM28.13 million spent without committee approval Involved 11 sub-scopes of the project that exceeded or did not have allocations. At the same time, the project governance structure did not function as set, such as there was no official presentation on the approval of expenditure or implementation status in monitoring meetings.
The audit also found that RM14.09 million of development funds were used to pay staff emoluments, resource costs and medical facilities. This is contrary to the 12th RMK guidelines which do not allow emoluments and office equipment to be financed through development funds.
The MyDigital ID project began implementation in March 2024 with the MyJPJ application as the earliest to support it. It is used for online identity verification and will be integrated into all government services.
It will also be used for pre-paid SIM card registration to prevent widespread online fraud. The long-term plan is that it can be used to vote online in the future without having to rush back to the village.
