Gucci Will Launch Smart Glasses With Android XR

The most premium smart glasses on the market today are products from EssilorLuxottica and Meta. They dominate the market with their Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses series. After this, the competition will be even more intense after Gucci CEO Luca de Meo confirmed that they will enter the same market starting in 2027 in collaboration with Google.

Gucci's first smart glasses will almost certainly use the Android XR operating system that was shown at Google I/O last year. It can operate with a built-in screen or just with voice control like Ray-Ban's current glasses. Although the operating system was launched last year, Google is still secretive about when the Android XR glasses will be marketed.

It is very likely that it will be at the Google I/O event with several other manufacturers such as Samsung and Nothing using the same event to launch their products. Google itself invested in the glasses company Warby Parker in preparation before launching their smart glasses.

Although it is a very useful product, now there are concerns that smart glasses equipped with cameras will involve privacy issues. Recordings can be done without the knowledge or permission of the owner of the body.

Some educational institutions have banned it during exam season because it can be used to cheat. In China, smart glasses are offered for rent to help cheat in English and math exams.
