Ministry of Communications: 43,618 Scam Content Has Been Deleted Throughout 2026 So Far



The issue of digital content with scam or fraud elements is seen to be increasing year by year, with the government through the Ministry of Communications and the Multimedia Communications Commission seen to constantly need to ask various social and online media platforms to delete such content from causing harm to Malaysians.


Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications today announced at the SEA Journalists Federation General Assembly that a total of 43,618 scam or fraud content has been deleted throughout 2026 so far.


He also compared the decrease in scam content from 2023 to now, and the total increase in content removals is seen to have increased from 6297 in 2023, 63,652 in 2024 and 98,503 in 2025.


Since 2023 until now, the MCMC has reportedly made applications to delete 255,931 scam content from various social media platforms, of which 212,070 contents have been deleted.


He further said that today, scam content can no longer be seen as a threat, but a global challenge that needs to be addressed together by all countries around the world.


For this, he said that Malaysia is committed to strengthening regional cooperation to address the issue of scams and false information. For this, clearer standards in the use of artificial intelligence in media content are expected to be introduced later.
