Recently, there have been reports that several new gaming laptops will come with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics cards with more unique specifications than usual.
This is the graphics card offering with 12GB of GDDR7 memory compared to the usual 8GB. Previously, 12GB of memory was only used on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card for desktops and laptops.
According to several reports, this seems to have been confirmed by NVDIA itself, who said that their clients have been asking for the GeForce RTX 5070 laptop graphics card to be offered with a little more memory, and the addition of 4GB of memory is seen as the best way to meet that demand.
Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs remains strong, and memory supply is constrained. In order to maximize memory availability, we are releasing the GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU 12GB configuration with 24Gb G7 memory. This gives our partners access to an additional pool of memory to complement the 16Gb G7 supply that currently ships with most GeForce GPUs. The 12GB configuration will exist alongside the current 8GB configuration, and allows our partners to bring a broader range of GeForce RTX 5070 laptops to consumers
NVIDIA also confirmed that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card which also has 12GB of GDDR7 memory will not be replaced and will still be offered as a more premium gaming laptop graphics card option.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 with 12GB of GDDR7 memory maintains the use of the GB206 graphics chip with 4608 CUDA cores, while the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti uses the GB205 chip with 5888 CUDA cores. The memory chip used also maintains a bandwidth of 128bit compared to 192bit on the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card memory chip.
The expectation is that this laptop with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 12GB graphics card will be shown around the Computex Taipei event which will take place in early June soon.
