Android TV is 11 years old and now uses the more modern name Google TV. Since the beginning, Android TV interface navigation has used an 8-way arrow system. Anyone who owns a TV with this operating system knows that the arrow navigation system using an 8-way d-pad button is less intuitive than LG TV OS which has long supported pointer-type navigation.
Pointer-type controls use a gyroscope to move the child on the screen. It is more intuitive especially when there are many menus that need to be pressed on the screen. This support will be provided through the latest Google TV update. As someone who uses a phone as a Google TV control at home, this is an update that I have been waiting for because arrow navigation is too slow.
In preparation for the support that will be provided, Google has urged Google TV application developers to start supporting pointer controls starting today.
