If you live in Selangor or Kuala Lumpur, you may have noticed that parking payers using the Smart Selangor and Flexi Parking applications have been disrupted since yesterday. Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari issued a statement saying that the disruption has passed because the system is undergoing the migration process to a new browser. But today, the Gotchaa Lab website revealed what actually happened, the system used has been hacked.
A group of hackers using the name “MelayuSpiritual” admitted to carrying out the attack after exploiting two weaknesses in the system used. The hackers said that the attack was carried out as a lesson to operators to maintain the security of user data and not let it be stolen before being sold to external hackers.
The application, although still open, has problems accessing the location of the user who wants to make a payment and the payment process cannot continue. If an attempt is made, a notice stating an error in the system will be displayed. Due to this attack, parking payments using the Jom Parkir JomParking, Touch ‘n Go eWallet, Setel and NINE applications are also affected.
The process of restoring the service is still being carried out by the service operator. For now, no fines are imposed on users who do not pay for parking in the affected areas.
