Nora Al Matrooshi, the First Arab Female Astronaut Ready to Go to Space

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will send its astronauts back into space. Interestingly, she will be the first ethnic Arab female astronaut.
She is Nora Al Matrooshi. He is still young, only 28 years old. But that didn't stop him from making history in the space world.

There are many women who became astronauts and served on the International Space Station (ISS). However, there are no Arabs yet and Al Matrooshi is ready to be the first.

"I think this proves that Arab women have the ability and they are able to represent the Arab world in various sectors and fields," said Al Matrooshi in an interview with The National, Thursday (8/7/2021).

"I think being selected as the first Arab female astronaut will lead other people interested in space and be able to inspire them," he continued.

He revealed that his family supports Nora Al Matrooshi's ambitions as an astronaut. From the beginning, he had told his family about his desire to become a space explorer.

"I am known to be quite stubborn, in this case if I want something, I will try my best to achieve it, even if I have to work for several years to get it. I hope my parents are proud of what I have achieved so far," he said .

Al Matrooshi is a mechanical engineer. He graduated from UAE University (UAEA) in 2015.

Currently, the veiled woman is part of a UAE team of four astronauts to undergo training at the Johnson Space Center, NASA's part of the space mission program.

Nora Al Matrooshi will spend hours underwater learning how to walk in space, also known as the spacewalk. In addition, he was trained to fly supersonic jets.

"As an engineer, you need to be able to analyze a lot of information in a short time. I believe that those skills are very important to be an astronaut. Other UAE astronauts are in different fields and I think my technical expertise will be invaluable," he concluded.

Earlier, in 2019, Hazzaa Al-Mansoori became the first UAE astronaut to fly. He spent a week on duty at the International Space Station.
