Sad Portrait of 'Smoking Fish' Winner of World Photography Contest

Garbage in the ocean and in other waters -- which is not actually a dumping ground -- is very worrying. All of this can be proven from the following photo that won the 2021 Conservation Ocean Photography Awards.

The fish eating cigarette butts in the photo is Trachinocephalus myops, known to some as a fish snake found in the Atlantic Ocean. These animals spend most of their time on the seabed waiting for prey. But this time he was unlucky. He tried to eat the nicotine butt.

"This little snake, Trachinocephalus myops, picked up the drifting cigarette butt thinking it was a fish and started swallowing it to eat," Kovacs wrote in an Instagram post about his story of finding this fish.

"Even after swallowing more than half a cigarette, he still hasn't realized his mistake!! This is one of those situations that I feel obliged to intervene because I can't imagine it will end well for the fish if it finishes swallowing its 'food'," he continued. .

Many netizens responded to this with sad comments. Most regret that there is too much garbage in our seas and can disrupt the ecosystem in it.

"This is how we treat our environment," wrote @kg_the_clicker.

"A touching and very poignant photo," said @the_extreme_vogarer.

"Thanks for doing something for him," @alicemoo1992 added his comment.
