PS5 Sells 20 Million Units, Sony Promises to Launch Production

Veronica Rogers, SVP, Head of Global Sales and Business Operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed that the PS5 has sold over 20 million units. He also promised to increase the production of this next-gen console.

"For fans who haven't gotten their hands on the console, please know that we are planning a significant upgrade, in PS5 production this year. We are working non-stop, making sure that the PS5 is available to everyone who wants it," said Rogers, quoted by us from Game Industry, Monday ( 6/6/2022).

Rogers said, since its launch in November 2020, his team has been working hard to bring this latest generation. According to him, the high demand from players has become Sony's enthusiasm in presenting the PS5.

"It's your passion for PlayStation, which drives us to innovate in new technologies, design the future of gaming and continue to create the best places to play," said Rogers.

However, Sony still has a very big homework. This is because the buying interest of fans is very high, even beating the PS4. But unfortunately, until now the game giant still has not been able to meet that need.

According to reports, the PS5 only took 82 minutes to sell 80 thousand consoles. While the PS4 requires at least nine days in the same period, with a similar number of purchases.

Plus, they've recently predicted a shortage of console supplies, to be until 2024. One of his efforts is to find sources of spare parts suppliers from several vendors.

Well, even though it sold quite a lot of up to 20 million units, these results have not been able to beat the popularity of its sibling, the PS4. Because according to the explanation of the gaming industry analyst, Daniel Ahmad, the amount obtained by the PS5 is almost 100 days longer.

"For reference, the PS4 sold 20 million units in 15 months and 14 days (471) days. The PS5 reached 20 million units after 18 months and 22 days (568 days)," said Ahmad.
