Don't just join the TikTok challenge if you don't want to be a victim of a cyber attack. Like the "Invisible Challenge" which is busy on TikTok and is used by hackers to spread dangerous malware.
The Invisible Challenge itself is a trending challenge on TikTok. This challenge invites users to pose naked or nearly naked and use the "Invisible Body" filter to replace their body with a blurred background.
According to a report by cybersecurity firm Checkmarx, hackers are taking advantage of viewers who are curious about the TikToker's true form in the video by offering an application that can remove the filter and reveal the real body behind it.
However, when downloaded it turns out that the unfilter application actually carries dangerous malware that can steal Discord accounts, credit cards, crypto wallets, and other personal information.
"By offering tools that can potentially 'unfilter' these effects, cybercriminals are targeting people's curiosity, fear and even evil to download them," Cybersmart CEO and co-founder Jamie Akhtar said in an interview with Forbes.
"Of course, at that point, they will find out that the cybercriminal's claims are fake and malware has already been installed."
Checkmarx reports the hacker also uploaded his own video to promote the app which it claims can remove the "Invisible Body" filter. The video contains a link to a Discord server called "Space Unfilter" to download the filter removal app.
Users who download the app instead install the "WASP Stealer (Discord Token Grabber)" malware, which is used to steal Discord account details, stored credit cards, passwords, crypto wallets, and other computer files.
Checkmarx estimated that there were more than 300,000 users who joined the Discord server before it was removed. The Invisible Challenge itself is still lively on TikTok, with the hashtag #invisiblefilter having more than 27 million views.
