Twitter Bans Third Party Apps

Twitter today updated the terms of the agreement for developers, as well as banning all third-party applications for the social service.

Through the latest term update, Twitter prohibits the use of their API to develop products or services that are substantially identical or substitute for Twitter.

This update to the terms comes after Twitter abruptly shut down access to their previous API, rendering a number of Twitter's third-party applications unusable.

With this change, all third-party applications will no longer be able to be used, and users will have to use the official application from Twitter to access the service. It is also expected that Twitter will be able to sell ads more effectively by offering only one platform or application - without the interference of other third-party applications.
