The surge in cashless transactions on Malaysian campuses is increasing. PayNet has announced a new record for Digital Campus 4.0 with 58.7 million digital transactions in 2025, more than double the 24.4 million transactions in 2024.
This increase shows that public university students are increasingly making cashless payments a part of their daily routine and no longer just a temporary trend. With consistent use every day, the cashless culture is becoming more integrated into campus life and forming long-term habits. This development also marks a real change among the younger generation with the financial system, thus strengthening confidence in the country's payment infrastructure.
The announcement by PayNet also confirmed the full participation of 20 public universities and 11 private universities, making Digital Campus's reach the widest since its launch. UiTM Perlis Branch emerged as the leader in the public category with an average of 98 transactions per capita while INTI International College Subang led the private category with 127 transactions per capita. Both received RM100,000 as a reward. This proves that Digital Campus is not just a campaign but a space for how students have made cashless payments a daily routine.
In the same development, PayNet also highlighted the clear economic impact with almost 600,000 students and over 7,500 small traders involved. The benefits gained include more stable cash flow and more orderly transaction records, thus strengthening the country's digital economic ecosystem.
