After listening to feedback from users, Discord has decided to delay the global implementation of its age verification system until H2 2026. The delay is intended to expand the choice of verification methods and publish more detailed technical documents to meet regulatory requirements.
The system is designed to ensure that appropriate protection is provided to users according to their age categories. Over 90% of users will continue to use Discord as usual because their age is automatically determined through existing security systems without the need to take any additional action.
Discord also emphasized that they do not require a comprehensive upload of ID cards or facial scans. Only a small number of users, specifically those who want to access spaces with certain age restrictions, may be asked to verify their age.
