Extreme Weather Forecast, Saudi Arabia Freezes This Year

Saudi Arabia's National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a warning that the Kingdom is likely to experience an extreme winter that will freeze it, with temperatures forecast to reach below zero degrees Celsius in some areas.

"All early indications suggest we are about to enter winter, where temperatures will drop below zero," NCM spokesman Hussain Al-Qahtani was quoted as saying by the Saudi Gazette.

Earlier this month, much of Saudi Arabia witnessed moderate to heavy rain, and a thunderstorm caused by Tropical Cyclone Shaheen that made landfall in Oman.

Typhoon Shaheen had an indirect impact on Saudi Arabia with an air depression that caused thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain in several parts of the Kingdom.

Al-Qahtani further said that the world is experiencing a severe climatic phenomenon which certainly affects Saudi Arabia as well. Previously, Saudi Arabia was hit by an unprecedented rise in temperature.

Last summer, NCM recorded a temperature of 53 degrees Celsius in several parts of Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, a number of areas experienced rainfall in addition to unprecedented rainfall in areas south of the capital, Riyadh.

The country is famous for its very hot weather during the day, and the temperature varies with the humidity difference between regions, so winter is one of the most awaited seasons.

Winter in Saudi Arabia usually reaches its peak between December and January, but can continue for another month or two.
